FAQ

1. Can cats without kidney problems eat this too?

All adult cats can eat it!
Although the low-phosphorus can has a lower phosphorus content, its nutritional composition (such as the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, calcium content, etc.) is entirely designed according to the AAFCO/NRC adult cat nutrition standards, so it can serve as an adult cat’s daily nutritional staple.

Compared with cats that have kidney troubles, healthy adult cats have fewer dietary restrictions, and we also recommend DogCatStar’s other ‘reduced-phosphorus, but not low-phosphorus’ gum-free staple cans, such as the fresh-meat can and the fussy-eater can. Rotating and pairing them lets your cat change flavours and keep things fresh!

2. Can cats with kidney disease eat this?

In the early stage, yes; in the middle-to-late stage, we recommend consulting a veterinarian.
DogCatStar’s low-phosphorus can has a phosphorus content of about 125mg/100kcal. For cats with early-stage kidney disease, it is recommended to keep ‘phosphorus’ intake below 125~130 mg/100kcal; for middle-to-late-stage kidney cats, besides controlling phosphorus intake, protein intake must also be limited, so we suggest pet parents take a screenshot of the ingredients and ask a trusted veterinarian!

3. What is the difference from the senior cat Silver-care can?

The low-phosphorus can has a lower protein ME% and added kidney-care ingredients.
Both the low-phosphorus can and the Silver-care can are designed according to the US AAFCO/NRC adult cat nutrition standards and can serve as an adult cat’s daily staple.
Healthy senior cats have higher protein needs, so we recommend the Silver-care can as the main food with the low-phosphorus can as a supplement; for senior cats with kidney troubles, we recommend the low-phosphorus can as the main food with the Silver-care can as a supplement!

4. Why is the colour of the gravy more yellow?

Because the low-phosphorus can has an increased amount of vitamin B group!
Cats with kidney troubles easily lose water-soluble vitamins, and the B group in particular cannot be synthesised on their own, so DogCatStar’s low-phosphorus can supplements enough nutrition for cats by increasing the B group by 20%; therefore it is normal for the gravy colour to be slightly yellow.
