I already take my cat for regular health checks every year – do I still need occult-blood cat litter? It is still recommended for everyday monitoring
Regular health checks are vital for your pet and are an effective way to understand your cat’s health. However, because the interval between check-ups is fairly long, we still strongly recommend that, in addition to regular check-ups, owners also use occult-blood litter day to day, so your cat’s urine can be easily tested around the clock, 24 hours a day.
If I normally use a deodorising spray, will it affect the occult-blood litter reading? Deodorising products may indeed affect the reading
Deodorising products usually contain various chemical ingredients, so while using occult-blood cat litter/granules we recommend avoiding mixing them with products such as deodorising sprays and deodorising powders, so as not to affect the reading.
Can occult-blood litter still be flushed down the toilet? Yes, it can!
Occult-blood litter = stick tofu litter + occult-blood granules, and the main ingredient of the occult-blood granules is in fact the same as tofu litter, so it can be flushed down the toilet too.
Do the occult-blood granules in the occult-blood cat litter lose their effectiveness? Under normal everyday use, they will not give a false reading! However, because the occult-blood granules detect occult blood in urine through an “oxidation reaction”, they must be kept away from strong oxidisers (for example: bleach, hydrogen peroxide) so as not to affect the granules’ test results.
In addition, for the best test results, please use immediately after opening and replace the entire tray within 30 days, to avoid prolonged exposure to air affecting testing accuracy.
Can the occult-blood cat litter/granules be mixed with other cat litters? To maintain the best test results, the occult-blood granules are only suitable for use with tofu litter.
Because the ingredients and raw-material sources of mineral (clumping) litters vary greatly between brands, we do not recommend using them together with the occult-blood granules, to avoid abnormal readings.
How do the occult-blood granules work?
When a liquid containing haemoglobin reaches the reactive layer inside the granule, the granule turns from white to blue. However, if the blood only stays on the surface of the granule and does not soak into it, the granule will not change colour!
The base of the occult-blood granules is similar to tofu litter, so when your pet wees as usual the granules can quickly absorb the urine to give a reading, and pet parents can use them with confidence.
Is it normal for the occult-blood granules themselves to look slightly yellow? Yes, it is normal~ Due to the manufacturing process, the occult-blood granules may naturally appear white or yellow, so both of these colours are normal and pet parents can use them with confidence! Also, only when a granule turns blue does it indicate that your pet may have an occult-blood problem.
